Valeriy Davidovich Rubinchik (April 17, 1940, Minsk - March 2, 2011, Moscow) - Belarusian and Russian Soviet film director and screenwriter. Honored Artist of the Russian Federation (1998). He was born in the family of a musical, theatrical figure and engineer. He studied at school number 42 in Minsk. He graduated from three courses of the Belarusian Theater and Art Institute in Minsk (1962). 1962-1969 studied at the directing department of VGIK. He worked as a laborer at the "Belarusfilm", then assistant director, an assistant, and since 1969 the director. He was artistic leader of "Belarusfilm" .With 1990 - "Mosfilm". Laureate of the Lenin Komsomol Prize of Belarus (1978, for the film "Wreath of Sonnets"). Jury Prize at the IFF in Montreal (1980, for the film “The Wild Hunt of King Stach”). He taught at the All-Russian State Institute of Cinematography, the Institute of Contemporary Art in Moscow, at the Higher Director's Courses, at the All-Russian Institute for Retraining and Advanced Training of Cinematography Workers. In 1999 he headed the film and television directing workshop at the Institute of Contemporary Art, and since 2004, he was the dean of the film and TV directing department there. Died on 03.03.2011 after a serious long illness. He was buried at Vostryakovsky cemetery.
